LEAD UMPIRE

What is a Lead Umpire?  This person is responsible for communication with the coach and The Arbiter (submit game report).

Who is the Lead Umpire?  The Lead Umpire for a series is listed as the plate umpire for the first game.

Responsibilities:  Call home coach within two days of the contest.  During this call you should confirm the following:

-  Date, time & place of contest

-  Best phone number to reach coach before game

-  Give coach your cell phone

After the contest, you should fill out the game report in The Arbiter.  The notes section is where you would communicate any situations that arose during the contest.  You also need to report who drove.

This communication with the coach is crucial to raising our professionalism in the eyes of our schools.  If you get a coach's voice mail, you need to leave the information on the message.  Just like our interaction when you are officiating, the conversation needs to revolve around "just the facts" and not social stuff.

The game report you fill out at the end of each contest will be key in closing out the games in the computer and getting paid.  It will also spark the travel fees to be entered.  As a result, this little communication is extremely important and should be completed on your return home or within 48 hours.
